Benchmade Monochrome Pocket Knife Review
Posted on May 30, 2008 - Filed Under Uncategorized
The Benchmade Monochrome is slender enough to be your everyday utility knife and rugged enough to be counted on while on active military duty. I was able to get a good deal on this knife and here are my thoughts:
What I like about the knife:
1. Benchmade’s Monolock is extremely strong and has been proven to hold up over time. My knife has no movement in the lock, either up and down or side to side. Your fingers will be glad to have this type of protection.
2. At just over 3 inches long (3.04), the drop point style blade is crafted with N690 stainless steel which comes shaving sharp right out of the box. You have the option of a plain or half serrated edge when you buy a Monochrome and I chose the plain edge version.
3. The blade and locking mechanism aren’t the only tough parts on the Monochrome; the handle is made from very durable stainless steel. There are grooves cut into the handle, which give you extra grip.
4. The blade opens easily with a flick of the ambidextrous thumb stud. This feature makes the knife perfect for right or left handed carry.
5. You have the option of N690 stainless steel or 420J stainless and your knife can either come in all black or all silver. The black version is ideal for military or law enforcement who count on the anti-reflective finish.
What I didn’t like:
I would like to see this knife available with a fully serrated blade and with a clip or tanto point.
Overall:
With a suggested retail value of $60, the Benchmade Monochrome packs a lot of punch for a very reasonable price. The practical blade design, rock-solid lock and rugged handle make it one of the best deals in the knife world today.
