I wanted to take the time to share with you my public speaking teaching resources. These are great because they really can help you conquer your public speaking fears and general flaws. I found the best way to learn is by doing. There is just no other way to properly learn. Standing in front of the mirror giving a speech or in front of your family, isn’t really doing it.
I think the best resource anyone has available to them is the Toastmasters organization. It is a non-profit group that works to help people improve their public speaking skills. It is a very supportive group that tries to encourage people to learn. It is a learn by doing program, but you’re allowed to go at your own pace.

I’m going to help you improve your speaking skills by giving you the know how on all the little public speaking tricks. Public speaking is one of the hardest ways to communicate, so when you get this down, all speaking becomes easy.
- Provoke People: This is something most people don’t want to do in a good or bad way. I think a lot of people have this social boundary where they just won’t push something. It seems like “manipulating” someone to an emotional state of action, but it really isn’t that negative. We want to provoke people. When someone hears you speak, you want them to get to the point of action, either good or bad. You need to have the confidence to do this because it really is away to connect with the audience.
Speakers Behaving Badly - Are You Guilty Of Platform Abuse?

The platform is a privilege. When invited to speak, we have a responsibility to respect the audience and the nature of the platform (culture, venue, purpose of the invitation). Yet, many speakers take this responsibility lightly and abuse the platform.
Some of the biggest abusers are Hollywood celebrities at the academy awards. It’s disrespectul to accept an award and then use the stage for self-serving causes and political rants.
When Jane Fonda received an academy award for the movie Klute, it was at the height of her anti-war protests. You could hear the audience breathe a sigh of relief when she said, “There’s so much to say but now is not the time.”

Do you always create a good first impression?
How true that is in the business world. As a person who gives a couple of hundred workshops a year, it took me a while to recognize this. And I don’t mean that moment you stand up and welcome the class to your session, I’m talking about that moment you walk in to your client company’s offices.
Being involved in training and the development of others is a wonderful occupation, but because of the amount of equipment a trainer often carries (laptop, data projector, speakers, video camera, batteries etc) one can often arrive looking rather drained of energy, especially when you’ve lugged your gear across town on London’s tube system.
