With over 90% of US households taking advantage of the convenience of paper towels we produce over 3,000 tons of waste each day. Is this problem insurmountable? No - if each home simply replaced one roll of their traditional paper towels with paper towels made from recycled paper, we could avoid wasting 3.4 million cubic feet of landfill space and prevent 864,000 trees from being cut down.

The Benefits of Recycled Paper Towels

By using recycled paper towels we are doing much more than just reducing landfill waste. According to Ideal Bite, “For every ton of 100% recycled paper that is bought, about 4000kWh of energy and 7,000 gallons of water are saved. It also avoids releasing 60 lbs of pollutants into the air.”

There are several variations of alternative fuels and several classifications depending on your exact definition. Let’s take a closer look.

A fuel is defined by the Merriam-Webster dictionary as a substance that is used to produce heat or energy by burning and also a substance from which energy can be liberated such as in a nuclear reaction. When you are discussing the variations of alternative fuels these two classifications can be a good starting point. Fossil fuels fit the first definition. They are burned or consumed in some manner to produce heat or energy. Fossil fuels are considered to be the conventional fuel. How Do Solar Cells Work

Posted on December 5, 2007 - Filed Under Home Improvement | Leave a Comment

There is a growing awareness by governments and the public at large that fossil fuels are a finite resource that continues to be used up at alarming rates in developed and developing countries. The realization that there may be little future for the planet if we continue to use these fuels has prompted governments to look for alternative energy resources. Most governments seem to be torn between embracing the renewable energy resources like wind, wave and solar power or opting for nuclear power despite public uneasiness at the use of nuclear energy. It seems that governments feel in their hearts that renewable resources are the way to go so they introduce policy to reward people for using solar power. But in their heads they feel that nuclear is tried and tested and has demonstrated that it can deliver energy in large quantities at a reasonable price. With this debate raging it seems topical to focus on solar energy and discuss how solar cells work to provide energy that we can use.
