There are quite a few insurance options available when you are getting a new boat in your hands. If it is a second hand one the options are still open, but get an evaluation from an experienced person about the depreciation value. And then, the present physical state and appearance that the boat is in will determine the extent to which you would be covered and your premium payable amount.
The experienced boat franchises are usually officially certified at boat inspection and know the requirement of local marinas to dock you boat, if you choose to do so. In the worst case scenario, you will only be given third party insurance.
