Goal Setting - Take Another Perspective

Posted on February 6, 2008 - Filed Under Self Improvement

Sometimes goal setting becomes even more effective after you have experienced a change in your perspective.

For example, my perspective on earning an income changed from “you have to work your tail off for everything you get” to “it is possible to enjoyably earn big money by writing it once and selling it many times.”

It took communicating with someone who was having a whale of a time actually doing just that, to see that it was indeed possible - and then comparing my perspective of “it might be possible” to his, that “it was inevitable”.

Another point to bear in mind is if you can change your perspective on a particular goal setting issue that it is holding you back it may also measurably improve your self esteem in that or related areas.

And these seemingly small changes in self-esteem or self-image can be catalysts for tremendous positive growth in your life.

Imagine for a minute that you indeed became a master of changing your own perspective. Hmm, then I think these two Joseph Campbell quotes might resonate through your life:

“People say that what we’re all seeking is a meaning for life. I think what we’re really seeking is an experience of being alive, so our life experience on the purely physical plane will have resonance within our innermost being and reality, so we can actually feel the rapture of being alive.”

“Follow your bliss”.

Amen to that!

What else might you ‘need’ to move closer to complete happiness and fulfillment?

Perhaps peace of mind is the key here.
Consider Bob Dylan’s words:

“What’s money? A man is a success if he gets up in the morning and goes to bed at night and in between does what he wants to do.”

That about sums it up for me. (Ignore his unintentional gender bias.)

How about you and your perspective on goal setting?
